DAY 01

Andean Hike and Majestic Landscapes

We begin our Rainbow Mountain tour between 4:30 and 5:00 AM with direct pickup from your hotel in our tourist transport. We'll travel southeast of Cusco for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes until we reach Cusipata, where we'll make our first stop for a hearty breakfast. Afterward, we'll continue for another 1 hour and 20 minutes by transport to Kayrawiri (the starting point of the hike), located at 4,430 meters above sea level.

Before beginning the ascent, our guide will give a brief informational talk. We'll start our hike to Rainbow Mountain, which will last approximately 1 hour, depending on the group's pace. Along the way, we'll enjoy spectacular panoramic views of mountains, lagoons, and the imposing Vilcanota mountain range, which is surrounded by the majestic Ausangate peak. We'll also have the opportunity to observe South American camelids such as llamas, guanacos, and alpacas. Upon reaching the summit of Rainbow Mountain, we'll have the opportunity to appreciate and admire the breathtaking surrounding landscape.

After visiting and exploring the area, we'll return along the same path, descending for approximately one hour back to the parking area. There, we'll board our tourist transport to head to the lunch location. Afterward, we'll continue our return journey by transport, arriving in the city of Cusco around 5:00 PM.

We answer your questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the available times and how long does the tour last?

The tour lasts approximately 12.5 hours. This tour operates exclusively starting in the early morning, with pick-up at your hotel between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM, and returning to the city of Cusco around 5:00 PM.

2. Do I have to buy the tickets myself?

No, the entrance fees are included in the package. Access to Rainbow Mountain has a separate cost, which is managed by the local communities and must be paid in cash (Peruvian soles) at the checkpoint along the route.

3. Does the tour include lunch or any snacks?

Yes, unlike half-day tours, this tour includes breakfast in Cusipata before starting the ascent and a restorative lunch after completing the hike.

4. Is it a physically demanding route due to the altitude?

Yes, it's a moderately to highly demanding hike. Although the ascent takes only one hour and the descent one hour, it's at a high altitude, exceeding 5,000 meters above sea level at the summit. It's vital to be acclimatized and hike at your own pace.

5. What clothes and personal items should I bring?

Warm clothing (gloves, hats, thermal jackets), hiking boots, and strong sun protection are essential (the sun's glare at high altitude is intense). Don't forget cash in local currency in case you want to rent a horse or buy water.

6. How will we get around between the different attractions?

All long journeys are made aboard tourist transport. The vehicle will pick you up at your hotel, take you to Cusipata (breakfast), then to the base camp in Kayrawiri (start of the trek), and finally make the same stops on the return trip to Cusco.
