DAY 01

The Inca and Colonial Legacy

We will begin our tour in the heart of the city by visiting the imposing Cusco Cathedral, a majestic treasure of art and history that, in Inca times, was the palace of Inca Wiracocha. Next, we will head to the Qoricancha Temple (the Temple of the Sun), the most important spiritual center of the empire, where you can appreciate the impressive and meticulously crafted Inca architecture upon which the current Santo Domingo Convent was built.
Once we have finished exploring the historic center, we will board our tourist transport to leave the city and ascend to the four surrounding ruins. Our first exploration will be at Sacsayhuaman, a colossal fortress of enormous carved stones. We will continue to Qenqo, a mystical and labyrinthine ceremonial center; then on to Puka-pucara, an ancient Inca military organization site and checkpoint; and finally, we will arrive at Tambomachay, known as the Inca Baths, a beautiful temple dedicated to the worship of water.

In these four locations, we will learn in depth about the architecture, religion, military organization, and connection of the Incas with nature. The tour will end after approximately 5 hours, at which point we will return comfortably and safely to the city of Cusco.

The tour lasts approximately 5 hours. You can choose the time that best suits your schedule: the morning tour (from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM) or the afternoon tour (from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM).

2. Do I have to buy the tickets myself?

No, the service does not include food. As it is a half-day tour, we recommend having a good breakfast or lunch before starting your tour. We do suggest bringing a personal water bottle to stay hydrated during the walks at the archaeological sites.

4. Is it a physically demanding route due to the altitude?

The hikes are short and moderate, but we will reach a maximum altitude of 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) when visiting Tambomachay. We recommend taking this tour after having at least one day to acclimatize in the city of Cusco and always hiking at your own pace.

5. What clothes and personal items should I bring?

You must bring your original passport or national identity card. Regarding clothing, we suggest dressing in layers ("onion style") due to the changing weather, wearing comfortable shoes with good traction for walking on uneven terrain, and bringing a waterproof jacket. Don't forget your sun protection (sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen).

6. How will we get around between the different attractions?

The first part of the tour in the historic center (Cathedral and Qoricancha) is done on foot. Afterward, we will board a comfortable private tourist transport that will take us to the outskirts of the city to explore the four megalithic ruins, and at the end, we will be safely returned to the center of Cusco.
