High-Altitude Hike and Canyon Viewpoints
Our tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel between 4:30 and 5:00 AM (if your hotel is not located in the historic center, we will meet at the Plaza Mayor in Cusco after prior arrangement). Once the entire group is gathered at 5:00 AM, we will begin our approximately 1 hour and 30 minute journey in our private tourist transport to the town of Cusipata, where we will enjoy breakfast for about 30 minutes.
After breakfast, we will depart from Cusipata towards the town of Santa Lucía. This approximately 2-hour drive takes us off the main road at the Chuquicahuana junction, following the road towards Acomayo and finally to Santa Lucía. Upon arrival at the starting point of our hike, the guide will provide the necessary instructions regarding the route and safety. We will then begin our approximately 1-hour hike to Waqrapukara. The route we'll take features breathtaking canyon viewpoints and incredible landscapes, where we'll have a few breaks to acclimatize and enjoy the scenery.
We'll arrive at our final destination, the Waqrapukara Ceremonial Center, at approximately 10:30 AM. Once at this impressive pre-Inca archaeological site, we'll take a 20-minute break before beginning our guided tour and stopping for photos at the various viewpoints. After completing all the activities at Waqrapukara, we'll begin our return journey, retracing our steps to reach our transportation. We'll then take our transport back to Cusipata for lunch and subsequently return to the city of Cusco, arriving at approximately 6:30 PM.
