DAY 01

Private Machu Picchu Tour

The day begins in Cusco, where our team will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the Peru Rail or IncaRail bus station. From there, you’ll begin a comfortable road transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station, in the heart of the Sacred Valley. The journey offers an excellent opportunity to take in the Andean scenery.
Once in Ollantaytambo, the train will take you on a scenic journey through Andean landscapes and lush vegetation to Aguas Calientes.
From there, we’ll head to the bus station to ascend to the citadel via a winding road. This short 30-minute drive offers panoramic views that set the stage for the majesty that awaits us.
Upon arrival at the entrance, you will be greeted by your private guide, who will accompany you throughout your visit. Together, you will begin the tour along Circuit 1-A, one of the most comprehensive and exclusive routes that will allow you to enjoy the best panoramic views of the citadel.
The trail will take you to the most iconic sites, such as the Guardian’s House, from where you can enjoy the famous postcard view of Machu Picchu. Your expert guide will reveal the secrets of this sacred site and explain the history of its structures as you explore the Main Temple, the Sacred Plaza, and the Intihuatana (the Sacred Sundial), gaining a deep understanding of Inca culture.
After the tour, we’ll head down to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have free time to have lunch and explore this charming town. Finally, you’ll take the train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, you’ll board a bus operated by the same railway company to continue the journey back to Cusco. 1. How far in advance should I book this tour?

Circuit 1-A is one of the most popular tours because it offers the classic panoramic view—or “postcard view”—of Machu Picchu. Due to strict capacity regulations from the Ministry of Culture, tickets for this specific circuit often sell out months in advance. Therefore, we recommend booking this tour at least 2 to 3 months in advance.

2. What level of physical exertion does Circuit 1-A require?

The tour is classified as “Easy” in difficulty. While Machu Picchu is a stone city built on a mountain and there will be stairs to climb up and down, the pace of our private tour is completely relaxed and adapts to you. Circuit 1-A focuses on the upper terraces, allowing for short, leisurely walks with multiple stops to take photos and listen to your guide’s explanations.

3. What does the Vistadome Observatory train experience include?

Unlike standard trains, the Vistadome Observatory offers an immersive experience. It features much larger panoramic windows to enjoy the Sacred Valley, as well as exclusive access to an observation car (with open-air areas). During the journey, you’ll enjoy live Andean music, traditional dances, and an extremely comfortable atmosphere that will make the train ride an attraction in itself.

4. What should I pack in my backpack for this one-day tour?

Since the weather in the jungle foothills is unpredictable, we recommend dressing in layers. It is essential to bring: your original passport or ID (required to board the train and enter the citadel), sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, a rain poncho or waterproof jacket, comfortable footwear (hiking shoes), and a reusable water bottle.

5. Can I bring my luggage or suitcase on the tour?

Due to regulations set by the railway companies (PeruRail / IncaRail), you are not permitted to travel with large suitcases or bulky luggage. You may only bring a small backpack or carry-on bag (maximum 5 kg / 11 lbs). If you have large luggage in Cusco, it can be safely stored at your hotel until your return in the evening.

6. Lunch is not included. Where and at what time can we eat?

At the end of the approximately two-hour guided tour of the Machu Picchu citadel, we will take the bus down to the town of Aguas Calientes. There you will have plenty of free time before boarding your return train. Aguas Calientes offers an excellent and varied culinary selection, ranging from pizzerias and cafes to high-end Peruvian restaurants, where you can have lunch at your own pace and according to your preferences.
