DAY 01

The Awakening of the Path: From the Sacred Valley to the Cloud Forest

Your journey begins with a private pickup at your hotel for an exclusive transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station. After a scenic train ride, we’ll disembark at Kilometer 104 to begin the ascent along the legendary Inca Trail. Guided by an expert, we’ll explore the mystique of Chachabamba, an ancient ceremonial site that welcomes us.
The hike immerses us in the lushness of the cloud forest until we reach the majesty of Wiñayhuayna. This site, with its terraces perfectly integrated into the edge of the precipice, is an architectural gem without equal. We will enjoy a gourmet outdoor lunch before settling in for a restful evening under the Andean sky.

DAY 02

The Threshold of the Sun: Encountering Machu Picchu

We begin our day before dawn to be among the first to cross the Intipunku (Gate of the Sun). From this sacred threshold, we’ll witness the first and most iconic panoramic view of Machu Picchu bathed in the morning light.
We’ll take a private tour of the citadel, exploring the royal quarters and sacred temples where history comes to life. After capturing the essence of this world-renowned sanctuary, we’ll descend to Aguas Calientes. The return to Cusco will be a completely comfortable experience aboard the Vistadome (or Observatory) train, enjoying panoramic views and first-class service before your final transfer to the hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How far in advance should I book this experience?

The Inca Trail is regulated by the Peruvian government and has a strict daily access limit (which includes tourists, guides, and staff). Permits typically sell out months in advance, so we recommend making your reservation 3 to 5 months before your desired date, especially if you plan to travel during the high season (May through September).

2. Will I have help carrying my luggage during the hike?

Porters are not included in this short version of the Inca Trail. Therefore, you’ll need to carry your own belongings in a small, comfortable backpack (maximum 20 to 25 liters) with essentials for the two days. Your main luggage or large suitcases can be safely stored at your hotel in Cusco or in the Sacred Valley.

3. The itinerary says “Challenging.” How difficult is it, and what altitude will we reach?

The route requires a good level of physical endurance, as we will be walking uphill for several hours on the first day, climbing original Inca stone staircases. However, unlike the 4-day route, the highest point we’ll reach is Intipunku (Gate of the Sun) at about 2,730 meters above sea level. We recommend spending at least a couple of days in Cusco before the trek begins to properly acclimatize.

4. Where will we spend the night on the first day?

After completing our hike through the cloud forest and descending from the archaeological site, we will spend the night in the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Here we will rest in comfortable accommodations, allowing us to recharge our energy properly for the climb to the citadel first thing the next morning.

5. What happens if it rains during the trek?

As we travel through the Amazon rainforest (cloud forest), the weather can be unpredictable, and rain is possible at any time of year. The trek is not canceled due to normal rainfall. It is essential to always have a good rain poncho or waterproof jacket on hand, as well as footwear with good traction to walk safely on wet rocks.

6. Are there restrooms along the Inca Trail?

Yes, there are basic, rustic restrooms located at strategic checkpoints along the trail (for example, near the initial checkpoint and in the Wiñayhuayna sector). We recommend bringing your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer, as these are not always provided at the restroom facilities along the route.
